It
all started when a friend of one of our
members ( who is himself bound to a power
chair) wanted to donate his deceased
father's ( a WWll Veteran and Bronze Star
Recipient ) power chai to a deserving
veteran. We picked up the chair and
took it to one of our sponsors,
DeeRay's Autobody in Shelley, Idaho.
Brett Waters, the shop owner said he would
be more than happy to help us ready this
chair for one of American's Veterans. Brett
and his boys tore the chair down, and
completely cleaned and lubed were needs,
replaced, or refurbished the associated
parts. He chair was in sad need of
upholstery work so Brett called his friend
Randy Walker of Walker's Upholstery in
Basalt, Idaho and asked for help. Randy also
happily accepted the challenge.
The
chair when finished, was painted "Huey
Green" stenciled with "VVA Chapter 972" in
military white lettering and emblazoned with
the VVA logo. Then upholstered with memory
foam and black leather. Period correct but
disarmed, M16 rounds were place on the rear
wheel hubs, A VVA 5" Patch was sewn into the
back of the headrest.
The completed chair was delivered to a
Veteran Navy Seal, "River Rat" who is a
resident of the
Idaho State Veterans Home, Pocatello, Idaho.
